" Poverty "

              Poverty is a global issue affecting over 700 million people who live on less than $ 2.15 per day , according to the world bank .

              It goes beyond lack of income poverty also means limited access to education , healthcare , clean water and proper shelter . It is both a cause and consequence of inequality , often rooted in historical injustice , conflict and poor governance . Poverty disproportionately affects women, children and marginalized communities .

              Rural areas tend to experience higher poverty rates due to limited job opportunities and infrastructure . Although global poverty has declined in recent decades, crises like COVID- 19 , armed conflicts , and climate change have reversed progress in many regions . Ending poverty required long - term strategies including inclusive economic growth , access to equality education and healthcare, social protection programs , and fair wages . Addressing poverty is central to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring a more just and equitable world.

Types of poverty :

1) Absolute poverty - A condition where individuals lack the basic necessities of life such as food , clean water , shelter and healthcare. Common in developing countries.

2) Relative poverty - based on a person's economic status in relation to others in the same society . Even if basic needs are met , individuals may be considered poor if they lack the minimum acceptable standard of living . Common in developed countries .

3) Situation ( Temporary ) poverty - Caused by sudden events like job loss , natural disasters , illness , or conflict . Often short - term , potential for recovery.

 

4) Chronic ( Persistent ) poverty - Long-term poverty passed from one generation to the next .Linked to systemic issues such as lack of education , discrimination or weak institutions.

5) Urban poverty - Found in city areas, characterized by overcrowding, unemployment, inadequate housing , and lack of services . Include slum dwellers and the homeless.

6) Rural poverty - seen in remote or agricultural areas with limited infrastructure, education or healthcare. Often involves subsistence farming and vulnerability to climate change.

 

      India has the highest number of people living in poverty .
